Research Hub

Carlo De Marchis

I do a lot of research as an enabler to my work as an advisor, and to inform my views on the tech, the product and the market.

Sometimes it is just for me and not shareable, either for confidentiality or for quality. Not good or useful to anybody else.

Sometimes it reaches a level of relevancy that, while nowhere near what research companies or serious analysts produce, may still be of value to a broader audience. So I decided to build this hub and share those.

The season on YouTube so far: 106 days

Six pages built from the YouTube Football Tracker. One sets the five leagues side by side, who is biggest, who earns most per video and which lengths travel furthest, and one page per league goes club by club: who publishes, who gets watched, who goes quiet, and the biggest videos of the season so far.

Alongside it, every source the scan was built from, what each one was used for, and the three attempts that failed.

Automated match video Work in progress

Twenty-three systems that record, produce and distribute a match with nobody behind the camera: the capture device, the automatic production, the platform, and the layer that decides who pays. Youth, amateur, semi-pro and academy football, read from Italy.

Alongside it, an essay on why the technology is cheap and works and the match still stays on the pitch, and the sources every record rests on.

Interactive sport experiences

Sport is data, and data can be beautiful. Independent fan projects built from official feeds: a World Cup you can walk through match by match, a tennis season told one player at a time, a Formula 1 year read lap by lap.
